Decorating your Home Theater on a Budget

If you are fortunate enough to be building a room in your home that is dedicated to the purpose of watching movies or as a home theater it only makes sense that you would like to decorate the room in a manner that is completely befitting of its purpose. There are amazing options available within this growing market of decorating and generally, there are prices that are designed to match. The good news is that while art often imitates life, there is no reason that we can’t imitate some of the great art we see in the movies or on televisions shows in our homes-at a fraction of the cost.

First of all, a really good home theater is an investment, particularly those that are generally used in private rooms. With that being said you will want to decorate your room in a manner that will not distract from your movie watching experience. There are many ways you can do this and many of them come at rather hefty costs for the average consumer. You do not have to purchase special lighting at $500 a pop when you can go to your local lighting or home improvement store and find excellent wall sconces that will be perfect for your home theater at a fraction of the cost for which you will find them at specialty stores catering to those building home theaters. For more low lighting options you can use inexpensive strings of rope lighting or even Christmas tree lights in order to provide some light without risking a glare on the screen.

Rather than hanging expensive drapery on the walls in your home theater you can apply textured paint in dark colors in order to avoid distracting glares. Your local retailer may encourage you to soundproof your walls and you are the only one that can really decide if that is necessary. I personally would pass, particularly if your home theater is going to be in a basement, which is typically somewhat removed from the rest of your home and your family area.

As far as flooring goes, darker carpeting is a good idea in most areas though possibly not the best in a basement. Cork makes a good flooring option for basement floors as is works to muffle sound from escaping the room in addition to a natural resistance to moisture related problems that may occasionally arise in a basement. It is also a very inexpensive flooring material that is highly underrated.

I also recommend dark furnishing for your home theater. A good choice might be darkly colored sectional sofas if you want the family to enjoy the space together. I also recommend beanbags or other special seating for the little ones who may enjoy your home theater as well. This gives them their own seats and helps eliminate some of the bickering and squabbles that often arise over premium seating space.

The point is that you do not have to spend a fortune in order to create a great atmosphere that is totally conducive to an overall pleasant movie watching experience in your home theater. While I do not recommend a great deal of clutter along the walls in this particular room you can do great things with plastic popcorn boxes and flameless tea light candles along the floor. Let your imagination present creative options to the big-ticket items you see in the specialty shops you’ll be amazed at some of the neat things you come up with.

Comparing Prices can Bring Sweet Bargains

One of the most difficult things for many people to do when walking into an electronics store is more often than not to stay on budget. There are so many bells, whistles, and simply delightful gadgets on the market today that it is hard to go into the store with the intention of spending a certain amount of money and sticking with that intention. This being said it is possible to bargain shop and get the best possible bargain for your money when it comes to purchasing a wonderful home theater system if you are willing to do the required legwork.

Seriously there are several steps involved and it often requires multiple trips to multiple stores or multiple phone calls at the very least over the course of about a week in time. The reason for all of this is that it could literally save you hundreds of dollars when it comes to building your home theater or even when buying a prepackaged system and will at the very least have you armed with the necessary knowledge to secure a good price on the system you choose.

A good home theater is a sizeable investment and not one that should be taken lightly. While a good system should last several years, you do not really want to spend more money than you have to in order to buy the system if you can avoid it easily. Many people buy these systems on impulse or make the decision to buy one then feel they must make the purchase before they have time to either talk themselves out of it or some other problem comes up, which prevents the little padding in the budget that a home theater will remove.

The first step in my grand plan for saving money on a home theater is to check out the local stores. There are a few reasons for this. First of all you have the opportunity to really check out the systems you are considering and compare them with one another in regards to both quality and the features you are seeking. Second, it gives you a chance to see the prices and selection that are available on the local level. Keep a record of the prices on the systems you like and compare them to the prices on the same or similar systems in other stores.

You should then go home and log on to the Internet. Comparing prices online can often present some amazing bargains. Once you find the lowest price, make a notation of the website and print off the information including the price. Once you have paper in hand, it’s time to do a little more legwork around town. Go to your local stores with the price and see if they are willing to match or beat the price you found online. While more often than not you will find stores that are willing to match but not beat the prices online. However, there are occasions when the store will throw in a nice perk such as a free DVD for your new system or something along the line in addition to matching the price you found online.

Simply comparing prices online and finding the lowest possible price can often mean the difference in a system being within your budget allowance or outside of your allowance. At best it can make a home theater within your reach at worst it is quite possible that you will save money over the local store price by shopping online (even if your local stores won’t match the price you can often find lower prices online with free shipping).

Compare Home Theater to Movie Going

Many people shy away from purchasing a home theater for fear of the great costs involved in doing so. I recommend that you put serious pen and paper to those assumptions rather then merely assuming it is too costly for your limited budget. The truth of the matter, when compared with the costs of going out to watch a movie you might find that you will be spending less money in no time by watching movies at home rather than paying for the ‘movie going’ experience.

You might want to pay careful attention to how much money you spend each month going to the theater. Don’t forget including any costs involved in hiring sitters, going out to dinner (most people don’t do McDonald’s before or after going to theaters), concession stand purchases in those figures. Even if you go to the theater once a week as a couple or as family the costs can really add up. If you visit the theater less or have a smaller family those costs might be less but you could also seriously raise those prices by going more often or having a larger family.

The important thing to remember when pricing a home theater system is the value it will bring to you and your family. If this will bring the family together at home for a couple of nights a week it is well worth the investment in my opinion. If it will keep the teens in your home and off the streets on the weekend it is worth even more. A home theater is an investment in the enjoyment of your home for everyone involved and many families find that this is a great way to enjoy a night at home. It’s also a great way to insure super-Super Bowl parties will be taking place in your home rather than the homes of others (it’s a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things).

With this in mind you can buy kits for anywhere between $200 and $2,000 (and upwards, but if you are going to spend more than $2,000 I seriously recommend building your own home theater). Box systems are rather easy to find in local and mass-market retailers and are rather simple to install (even for the uninitiated). These systems may not provide the best possible system but for those who have significant budget concerns they are a great place to start and you can get some really great systems if you are willing to seriously shop around and compare the different quality between brands as well as which bells and whistles you require and which you can live without.

Once you make the decision to buy a home theater the best thing to do is check out what is available. You should then take complete advantage of the great competition on the market today by searching for the most features for the lowest price. You just might be shocked and amazed at the great bargains that you can find, especially in the months following the big consumer expo show each January.

You should combine the home theater and excellent movie experience in your home with a membership to Netflix, Blockbuster, or some other home delivery DVD system and you can have frozen pizza, microwave popcorn, and all the pillows to hide behind you can ask for in the comfort of your home for a fraction of the price of going to the theater once a week.

Common Television Types for Home Theaters

When selecting components for your home theater you will come to a point in time when you must decide on which type and size of television you will need for the best possible viewing experience. There are many types of televisions on the market today and technology is constantly evolving and emerging in order to bring newer, bigger, and better televisions to a market that one would think is already saturated.

The good news is that the very nature of this market makes yesterdays cutting edge technology today’s bargain of the day. The very brevity of new technology in the electronics industry works in favor of consumers by driving prices down rather quickly. Nothing is entirely out of reach for the average consumer for too terribly long. For this reason you can afford to be fairly selective when choosing components for your home theater. This selectiveness just so happens to extend to televisions sets as well.

There are basically three types of television sets burning up the home theater market today. Those types of televisions include the following: plasma, rear project, or front projection television. Each of these have distinct advantages and disadvantages when it comes to home theater.

Plasma Televisions

These televisions often provide the best quality when it comes to picture. Their designs make them ideal for watching movies that are formatted for wide screen viewing and they have a much larger viewing area than traditional televisions and they also come in a wide variety of sizes in order to adapt to many types of home theater needs. The single largest problem with these types of televisions is the price, which can be quite prohibitive, particularly as you consider the larger sized televisions.

Rear Projection Televisions

Rear projection televisions offer a great deal of quality at a much lower price than plasma televisions. With these types of televisions the image is projected and reflected from the back of the television. One of the major disadvantages for rear projections televisions is the fact that they are quite sizable in order to house the components necessary for a good quality picture onscreen. Another distinct disadvantage is the fact that there is a great deal of competition that varies in quality and you really need to study the various televisions before settling on any one in particular.

Other notable drawbacks to rear projection televisions are the facts that the lighting in the room affects the quality of the picture onscreen and you have a narrow viewing range. Otherwise, the low cost involved is a huge bonus to many and makes the purchase of this type of television (particularly for a home theater) the best possible choice. It always comes down to a matter of preference.

Front Projectors

These are not exactly televisions in the traditional sense of the word but they work well for this particular purpose and are perfect solutions for many home theaters. The technology for this type of viewing medium has also evolved over the last few years. Gone are the days of big bulky boxes that sat on the floor of your living room and that no one could walk in front of without seriously distorting the television view. Today’s front projectors are mounted on the ceiling and provide a nice quality of picture rather you are using a screen that is designed to maximize the quality of the picture or merely projecting onto a blank wall.

As I mentioned before there is no universal right or wrong when it comes to selecting the best television for your home theater. The thing you should pay careful attention to is which screen or which view you like best. Which type of television will offer you the most bang for your home theater buck? You should also ask yourself which level of quality can you and can you not live without? These are important questions that should help you narrow down your search for a television for your home theater.

Common Home Theater Mistakes to Avoid

A home theater is no small investment, particularly if you are going for a good quality home theater. With that in mind there are many mistakes that people make along the way when it comes to their home theaters. What you want to do is learn from the mistakes of others rather than dooming yourself to repeat those that have been made so many times before. Below you will find information on some of the most often made mistakes when it comes to creating a great home theater for you and your family.

Windows

I’m not talking Microsoft either. One thing that is a killer for your home theater is a room full of windows. At night, every car passing by will prove distracting and during the day little can be enjoyed on your television from the sunlight pouring in. Even normal curtains allow some degree of light into the room, which will provide a distracting glare on you television screen. If you have no windowless rooms in your home you will at the very least want to install some heavy duty blackout drapes or curtains in order to prevent the glare and distraction that windows provide.

Cheap Speakers

Sound is one of the most important factors in imitating a theater quality movie viewing experience. If you have cheap speakers you will not receive the quality of sound that you will need in order to achieve that experience. The first five or ten minutes of the movie Top Gun provides one of the best sound tests I’ve ever seen. Grab a copy of the DVD and take it with you to the stores, compare speakers using that DVD and go with the set that provides the best quality of sound. It’s a good litmus test and you will be glad you did if you ever listen to a favorite movie on a friends inferior speakers.

Poor Installation

It makes no sense to invest thousands of dollars in a home theater system only to bring it home and do a poor job of installing it because you didn’t want to spring for the extra two hundred dollars for installation. Improper installation of your home theater will result in much less quality than you paid for, which makes a good quality system a complete waste of money. Pay the price now for professional installation if you have any doubts at all about your ability to properly install your system.

Not Reading Directions

On the other hand if you decide to do your own installation the number one problem is the result of not reading the instructions for not only installation but also the operation of your home theater. We may feel that we are intuitive by nature but sometimes it helps to have a roadmap to follow. Instructions for installation and operating manuals are our road maps and reading them first will not only save a great deal of time but also increase your enjoyment of your home theater.

Avoiding these common mistakes can go along way towards helping you get the most possible enjoyment from your home theater. It’s amazing how much of a difference little things can make along the way. Good luck with the selection, purchase, and installation of your home theater. I hope you enjoy many wonderful hours of movie, television, and game watching on your new system.

Home Theater Furniture, For A Homey Movie Theater

Home Theater Furniture, For A Homey Movie Theater

Home theater system may be best for you if you want entertainment and relaxation after a long day of work. If you are one of those busy executives who want to relax after a long day of work by watching movies but hate traffic jams, setting up a home theater may be what is best for you. Home theater is a luxury for some. This is because not many people can afford it however, knowing the basic components of a home theater may help you enjoy this modern entertainment. Know the basic components you need for your home theater system including home theater furniture to acquire the theatrical experience right in your own living room.

Basic home theater furniture such as home theater chairs and television cabinet may be good for your home theater set up. Other furniture that will enhance the home theater set up may be necessary but the home theater chairs and television cabinet are two of the basic home theater furniture that you may need. Other home theater furniture may be added dependent on the size of your living room. Apart from the home theater furniture required, the most important component of the home theater system, after considering the size of the room, are the three basic gadgets.

The three basic components of the home theater system like the television set, the speakers and the DVD player. Even for a small living room, the size of the television set should not be less than 27 inches. You may not want to watch a movie in a very small screen. Twenty-seven inches and above is necessary to acquire the big screen experience for a small room. Concerning the speakers, you may need at least three speakers for a small size living room. If you have a bigger room for the home theater set up, you may add up to six speakers. For extremely big room, a subwoofer may need to compliment the six speakers to arrive at the surround sound for your home theater. The DVD player is also important aspect to consider. A DVD Player with progressive scan will prove to be beneficial because of its sharp images and flicker-free performance. You may consider adding other equipments like home theater projectors, and for bigger rooms, you may add home theater projector screen. For the home theater furniture, the seating is a major consideration. The television cabinet is a secondary consideration of a home theater furniture. Adding other home theater furniture will give more life to your home theater system. However, we leave the recommendation to home theater experts especially concerning home theater furniture.

You may consider acquiring their services if you have bigger room for your home theater system. They will be able to advice you more particularly to the power rating requirements and speaker requirements like if you need an amplifier or other home theater furniture. Hiring the services of a home theater designer will add to the possibility of acquiring the most entertaining home theater system with complete home theater furniture.

A well-designed home theater system will be beneficial for the busy executive who needs to relax after a long day of work. If the home theater is not properly set up, the home theater experience will not be relaxing and entertaining. The surround sound will help you forget you are inside your own living room and not in a movie theater, but if the speakers are not of high quality, the sound may be irritating in the ears. Avoid having to suffer this, and enhance the possibility of a real-life movie theater experience with your home theater and the inclusion of home theater furniture by ensuring that a home theater designer will design it for your enjoyment.

Best Home Theater Systems – Formula For Finding The Best Home Theater

Best Home Theater Systems – Formula For Finding The Best Home Theater

What does best home theater actually mean? It’s interesting but everytime we run into someone looking at establishing their own home entertainment paradise they often ask how do they find the best home theater.

Reality is, getting the best home theater actually means what’s best for the indicvidual in question. Does that make sense?

Now before you go searching for the most expensive home theater on the market take a step back and do a little due diligence. Make a list of what you really need; whether you can start with some components now an add to the system in time and what your actual spending budget is. These are all pertinent questions.

Best Home Theater

In this article, we want to give you a guide to setting up home theater in your home and what it might cost you. There are a few variables to take into account. For example, you need to answer these questions:

- are you going to start from scratch?
- do you just want to upgrade what you already have in place?
- or are you planning to renovate your entertainment area?

If you are starting from scratch then are several alternatives. Today, big screen TVs are all the rage but look at the smaller screens before making a decision. A 27″-30″ television plus accessories such as DVD means you will need to begin with a budget of up to $1000.

However, if you already have a television and DVD player in place and are looking to upgrade to a better sound system, then your price reduces significantly. Purchasing a home theater in a box with the other components in place means you can budget for around $500 in expense.

Your Home Theater Television Choice

If you are looking to upgrade to either a plasma or LCD television then you need to make a couple of major decisions. Plasma has long been regarded as the ideal home theater screen of choice because of it’s size but LCDs have quickly closed the gap and are now getting much bigger in size.

Either way, purchasing a large screen version in either plus accessories which may also include a vide projector set up and superior sound system, then your budget is going to balloon out to somewhere in the vicinity of $4000-$10,000.

Remodeling Your Home Theater Room

Many home theater enthusiasts start out by incorporating an existing area as part of their plans but when the budget allows, they tend to upgrade. This can mean renovating an existing room including taking a wall out or adding extra features.

Home renovations can be expensive and when you start altering the appearance of a room the cost can escalate. Budget for $10-$30,000 for this type of upgrade which may even include new home theater furniture.

The benefit with this is adding extra value to your home but it is a commitment financially and avoid having to borrow money to complete this type of project.

So having the best home theater means more than simply going out and buying the most expensive units on the market – it comes down to what you really want and what will satisfy your needs.

Home Entertainment Center Furniture

Home Entertainment Center Furniture

A home entertainment center is a major piece of furniture and can hold many major electronic items, such as a television set, a VCR and/or DVD player, stereo components such as an AM/FM tuner, multi-disc compact disc changer, record player, and cable or satellite television receivers. The home entertainment center can be a welcome addition to your family room or home theater. The key point of your home entertainment center is of course the TV. Functionally, a home entertainment center is an organization tool. So Home entertainment centers serve the dual purpose of optimizing space utility and providing room for all electronic equipment to be kept together

Today’s home entertainment systems are every bit as good in quality and sound as the movie theatres, plus they are getting better and even cheaper as technology continues to advance. In fact, with today’s home entertainment centers, watching a DVD at home with your surround sound system is a very enjoyable experience. If your idea of relaxation or recreation is watching TV, listening to music, reading books, or browsing the net to your heart’s content, then a perfect home entertainment center is an answer to match your lifestyle.

These are excellent contemporary furniture sets that will make your big screen shine and provide space for your home entertainment center accessories as well. Home entertainment center furniture such as seating, television stands and home theater equipment rack or cabinet are essential items in a home theater. It is very important to make sure that all of your home theater furniture matches the decor and design of your room

The bookcases and television cabinets can be configured into a wide variety of entertainment settings. TV entertainment cabinets, though a relatively new concept, are fast gaining popularity so much so that a TV cabinet is now the primary cabinet for any home entertainment center. The size of the cabinet you choose will depend upon the size of the TV. If you choose to buy a closed-door entertainment center, you can choose between glass doors or wooden doors for your cabinets. If your TV operates with a remote control it is better to opt for a glass door TV cabinet, otherwise the remote will not be effective. Then again, you must keep in mind that the design of the TV cabinet is such that heat should not collect because it can ruin the sensitive circuits on the microchips of the components.

These cabinets will help you proudly display your equipment, hide your cables and connectors, all in an attractive piece of furniture that complements your decor and matches your style. Home theater furniture will add a great deal of style and functionality to your home theater system. Make sure to allow sufficient dollars in your overall home theater budget in order to meet the needs for furniture. A well-designed, functional and beautiful entertainment center brings your television and other media equipment into its rightful place as an important part of your living space.

Home Theater Seating Furniture – Float In Excitement

Home Theater Seating Furniture – Float In Excitement

Did you know that you can buy home theater seating? Many companies make comfortable seating that you can put in your living that will make you feel like you are really at the theater. What better accessory could you have to go with the rest of your home entertainment center? Imagine how your friends will feel when they sit back in real home theater seating furniture and watch a movie with all the extras.

When you purchase home theater seating furniture, you are buying some of the best quality seating available on the market. They are sold in many styles and designs. You can purchase different types of fabric, including the type you find in a movie theater. They are designed so you do not have to permanently attach them to the floor of your home the way you would find them in a theater.

The type of home theater furniture you purchase will of course be determined by the amount of room that you have in your home. If you have enough room to put several rows of seats then you will either need to stager the seats or put the back rows on risers. This is necessary so that everyone watching the screen will have a great view.

If you have a smaller area for your home entertainment system, then you can purchase individual home theater seating furniture. Some of these are like recliners and couldn’t be more comfortable. The type of seating needed will completely depend on your preference and your entertainment setup.

They are in various shapes and sizes. They come in different designs and styles. You must keep your budget in mind while you are shopping for home theater furniture. You can get good furniture even when you have a limited budget. Of course the choices are more when the budget is high. Home theater furniture consists of various items like home theater seating, television stands, home theater tables, DVD storage racks and many more. There’s something called specialty furniture also which includes pillows, bar tables etc.

The home theater furniture is usually made up of different types of wood like cheery and maple. Some are also made from oak. You can go for cabinets if you have a big budget. These cabinets are ideally suited for flat screen televisions. These cabinets come with several advantages. They come with doors which can be closed when the television is not in use. This keeps the screen safe and sound. However you don’t need to worry in case you have a limited budget. You can get yourself television stands instead of the cabinets. They don’t have doors but are nonetheless they are good. They have some space for storage right at the bottom. Mounting of cabinets can also be done. This will make the viewing all the more pleasurable.

Audio equipments are an important part of the home theater system so you need some place to store them. Audio cabinets form a part of the home theater furniture. You can store all the audio pieces here.

DVD’s and CD’s too need storage. Various DVD and CD racks are available in the market. They come in various sizes and shapes. You can choose one according to the size of your room. If you have a small collection of DVD’s, you can buy a small rack. A huge collection will obviously need a bigger rack for storage. These storage units should match the style of your room, so choose accordingly.

Comfort comes first!

Comfortable seating is the most important thing about your home theater furniture. This is because there’s no use in buying expensive furniture if it is not comfortable. You and your family will sit on this for hours while watching movies, so the furniture must be comfortable. One of the most popular comfortable seating options is the plush recliners. They are ideal for home theaters. They usually have cup holders so you can sip your favorite coffee while watching your favorite movie. You can buy small side tables in case your recliner doesn’t have cup holder. These tables may have a wooden top or a glass top. People usually prefer the glass top because it has the advantage of setting up drinks.

Bar furniture is also important. You can go for it if your budget is not too limited. Bar furniture consists of tables, bar stools and several other bar accessories. You can have a good collection of drinks and snacks in your bar. This will make movie viewing all the more fun.

Home Theaters have become common and their popularity will grow even further in the coming years. The home theater furniture is thus very important because you can’t enjoy the movie if you don’t have a comfortable seating. Various options are available in the market; you just need to find the perfect one for your home theater. Keep your budget in mind and this shouldn’t be too difficult. Also, never compromise on comfort.

Choose the Right Stand for a 42 Inch LCD TV

Choose the Right Stand for a 42 Inch LCD TV
by: Amy Metz

Unless you’re mounting your new 42 inch LCD TV on the wall or on the ceiling, you’ll need a solid and reliable stand to support it. Many TVs come furnished with an appropriate stand, but some require that the stand be purchased separately. If the manufacturer furnishes your 42 inch LCD TV stand, and it meets your needs in terms of styling, you’re in great shape. Because your 42 inch LCD TV could become an integral part of the room’s decorating scheme, though, you may choose to purchase a stand that matches the needs of your viewing habits, your home, and your sense of style.

Because a 42 inch LCD TV is reasonably heavy, the most important requirement is that any stand must handle the weight of your particular 42 inch LCD TV and must provide a stable base in case it’s bumped or jarred. For that reason, make sure the stand you purchase meets the unique weight and strength requirements of the 42 inch LCD TV you purchased. The last thing you want to have happen is for your new TV to become damaged simply because your stand wasn’t up to the task. The owner’s manual for your 42 inch LCD TV will specify all the requirements of a suitable and effective TV stand for that model.

There are a few other considerations besides strength, though. Let’s look at a few other decisions you’ll want to make to ensure you get the maximum enjoyment from your 42 inch LCD TV.

1. Determine if the stand needs to hold other audio-visual equipment? If you own a DVD player, use a cable converter, have game systems like an Xbox or a PS2, and/or have a home theater system, you may want your stand to house that equipment as well as support the 42 inch LCD TV itself. Make sure you pick a stand that has shelves or compartments for the equipment you own, or even may someday own.

2. Determine if the stand will position your TV at an optimal viewing height. The height of the TV is an individual choice – make sure the stand you select will place your 42 inch LCD TV at the height you want. If you can, find an adjustable stand that gives you some flexibility. If not, determine the right height for you and select an appropriate height stand. An easy way to calculate your optimal height is to sit in your favorite chair or couch and determine how high your eye level is. Once you’ve determined eye level, make sure your 42 inch LCD TV will be centered at that point. Many stands are pre-engineered to approximate an appropriate viewing level for the average person, but make sure you’re comfortable with that height before you make a purchase. Some pedestal stands are adjustable; if you don’t need storage space, check out a pedestal stand.

3. Check to see if the stand has integrated cable management. If you’re buying a cabinet with a closed back, cable management probably isn’t an issue, since you’ll have plenty of space to hide cables. If you’re interested in a pedestal stand or a stand with an open back, make sure there are provisions built in to hide all the cables you may have. If you have a home theater, video gaming system, DVD player, and other components, you’ll have a large number of cables running from component to component – make sure the stand gives you plenty of room to store those cables out of sight. The stand shouldn’t just house your 42 inch LCD TV – it should handle all the cables and components, too.

Once you’ve found the right 42 inch LCD TV, finding a stand suits your needs and fits you’re your room’s dcor and design is important, too. Make sure you can enjoy your TV while it’s turned on, and how it looks when it’s not turned on.

The Inside And Out Of A Home Theater

Get to know important features of a home theater. Nice guide to buyers.

Home theater is a home cinema system that tries to reproduce video and audio in home that is of cinema quality and gives a real `cinema experience`. A basic system could comprise of an arrangement of a DVD and CD player, a television and a set of speakers. According to the people in the consumer electronics industry, a home theater is primarily an integration of high quality video and surround sound. A home theater design generally comprises of input devices, processing devices, audio output, video output, and proper ambiance and atmosphere.

Home theater input devices are sources of audio and video. There can be a single or multiple input devices for the same system. HD-DVD (High Density DVD) and blue-ray are one of the most preferred high quality formats that are being used. Often, VHS (Video Home System) and Video game systems are also included. They are available now, also have a home theater PC that acts as a library for video and audio content.

The processing of the input devices is carried out by either an AV amplifier or a Preamplifier and sound processor. These are used for complex surround sound formats. Before forwarding it to the output devices, the user should first select the input device. The audio output system consists a minimum of 2 speakers. The number of speakers can be as high as 11, in addition to the sub-woofer. Sub-woofer is important as it reproduces the bass audio frequencies. Regular floorstanding or bookshelf speakers cannot do this work.

A large HDTV (High Definition Television) forms the video output system. LCD TVs (Liquid Crystal Display Television), Video projectors, plasma TVs, rear-projection TVs, or a traditional CRT TVs are other available options.

Comfortable seats and proper arrangement of all the devices with respect to the seats is also important for that great `cinema experience`. Sound insulation for preventing sound from escaping the room and specialized walls for sound balancing within the room are a part of the higher end systems.

There exist two options for purchasing a home theater system. One can either, purchase and assemble various components, or purchase a home theater box kit. Assembled systems provide the best combination of components for the consumer`s budget. System in box kits includes a set of speakers, an amplifier or tuner for volume adjustment and video source selection, and at times a DVD player.

Few enthusiastic of the lot of home theater lovers take an extra step and build a room in the house, that functions as a home theater. To create a perfect listening environment, sophisticated acoustic design elements, like `room-in-a-room` construction, can be added to the system. Recreation of an ideal cinema experience does not stop here. A projector enclosed in a projection booth, specialized furniture, curtains in front of the projection screen, movie posters, etc make the experience much more real.

It is possible to set up systems in backyards too, provided proper outdoor atmosphere exists. Considering the availability of space, either a temporary or a permanent system could be installed. A temporary system could be a basic arrangement of foldable screen, a projector and a few speakers. On the other hand, an outdoor version could be elaborate with permanent fixtures, large video display components and dedicated audio output components. These backyard home theaters are one of the favorites with outdoor parties.

The rapid development in audio and video technologies has brought down the prices of home theaters. This in turn has enabled a do-it-your-self enthusiast to experience a true digital home theater at his doorsteps.

Home Theater Projectors

Read to get some relevant information on Home Theater Projectors and screens.

With the advent of home theaters the craze of watching movies in a real theater has faded out to a considerable extent. More and more people are looking forward to watch the much awaited and most favorite movies in the cozy comfort of their homes. Therefore the new buzzword is Home Theater. Home Theater consists of a projector and a screen.

Home Theater Projector

The projector is the device that helps in displaying the image as a response to an image output signal from the image supply apparatus like the computer or the DVD player. Initially projectors were used for conferences and meetings, presentations, exhibitions and demonstrations and those projectors were known as data projectors since they only displayed statistical graphs, surveys and documents but now they are being used for the purpose of entertainment.

Home theater projectors refer to the Front Projectors, which are ceiling mounted or placed on a shelf or in the most common cases placed on a table. It can also be used in a rear screen arrangement but then space poses a problem for rear screen arrangement. Most of the home theaters are widescreen-producing images. They are designed to operate in a dark room to facilitate clear picture, if that is not possible you a more powerful projector should be chosen. Modern Home Theater projectors use technology like The LCD, DLP and LCOS. Each technology is being tried and each has it’s own set of advantages and disadvantages. Most of the projectors are networked essentially with a receiver, a Home theater PC, speakers, screen, DVD player, cable box and a satellite box. Built-in or All-in-one home theaters are also available in the market. The rear projector consists of an image generator, which generates a projection image, a case that accommodates the generator, a reflection mirror and a transmissive screen. The reflection mirror reflects the projected image.

Home theater projectors generate a big picture that is not appropriate for small rooms. The other disadvantage is that the light has to be minimum since the pictures are projected with the help of a light source and any other light coming from any other source interferes with it. To have the best results the home theater has to be dedicated with a separate room, which is dark and is big enough for all the paraphernalia of the projector and the home theater. The cost of a projector can cost more than the television or the screen to be precise. The projectors can cost around $3000.

Home Theater Projection Screen

In a home theater the images are displayed on the projector screen projected from the projector. These screens provide excellent picture quality and are one of the trendiest home accessories in modern times. It is one of the most important parts of a home theater system besides the projector. The screen can either be a front projection screen or a rear projection screen. Flat screens are the most appropriate ones for front projection screen that are retractable and you have the option of rolling it up. Most of the screens have the velvet covering so that the extra light can be absorbed. The type of projectors that are being used, the seating arrangement and the distance between the screen and the projector should determine the screen type. There are Plasma and LCD screens as well, which have great picture quality. They are very convenient but also very expensive. Plasma Screens are susceptible to Burn-ins and consumers do complain that displays on a plasma screen are big enough but then the image if left on the screen for long time actually causes damage. A flat Plasma screen can be beneficial since it is compact and real pleasure to the eyes.

How to Wall Mount Your Home Theater Television Display

This article provides readers with instructions for properly mounting a flat panel plasma or LCD television to their home theater wall.

Small condominiums and full-scale home theater owners are all looking to mount their flat panel televisions to create more space and a better eye-catching design. Mounting a television onto the wall does not have to be difficult but it does take some care and research in order to do it safely and correctly.

The following are some helpful steps and advice for mount your LCD flat panel television to your home theater or condominium wall.

1. Choose A Wall

Look around your home theater or living room and decide where the ideal location for your TV would be. Look for a wall that is roughly twice the width of your television. Also, look for a wall that gives you enough height for the size of your TV. Remember you may be watching the screen from a sitting position or standing. The rule of thumb is that you will want your flat screen television located where the bottom edge is at eye level when you are seated and the top is at eye level when you stand up.

Also consider your wiring when choosing a wall. You will need to be able to either drill into the wall to thread the wiring or be able to hide the wiring in some way. You will also want to choose a wall with access to your cable our satellite outlet.

2. Practice with Art

Before drilling into any wall, hang a framed picture the approximate size of your TV or cut out piece of paper where you think you want your television to go. Leave it for a while and see if it feels like the right location. Look to see whether sunlight or lamp glare is reflected off the surface. If it reflects on the paper it will reflect off your screen. Move the paper to a different location if it doesn’t seem right.

3. Choose The Wall Mounts

Flat panel TV mounting brackets come in various shapes, sizes and functions. A home theater equipment retailer can point you to the right size for your particular brand of flat panel. Fixed brackets can be difficult to put in place because they require small hands and patience in order to line them up with the television mounts. Mounts that swivel are ideal for rooms where seating is located in several areas of the room. They also tend to be easier to mount.

4. Measure Before Drilling

Once you know where your television will go and what mount to use, find the wall stud and mark where the mounts should be placed with a pencil. Ensure the mounting bracket locations are level and that the height is appropriate. Once you are sure that the appropriate marks have been made, drill or screw in the mounting brackets. At this time, it is also appropriate to drill any holes for threading wiring if applicable. Just remember, measure two or three times before drilling into any wall.

5. Have a Buddy

It is imperative that you have help when hanging the television for your home theater. Many factory warranties do not cover damage that occurs as a result of trying to hang your flat panel television, so it is important to do things right and to be sure that you have help for the lifting and hanging. A helper can also give you advice on the location and height of the screen.

Consult with a home theater installer if you need any advice, or, if this seems like more than your time is worth, hire a professional to install it for you. That way you are sure it will be done in the best way possible.

How To Choose The Right Home Theater Seating

Home theater systems and home theater seating have become the suburban preoccupation of the decade. This article provides 6 great tips on how to choose the home theater seating that suits your needs.

Have you just bought a wonderful surround-sound home entertainment system but no decent home theater seating to sit on to watch the latest rented DVD? Do you always have to squeeze next to the cat and your daughter who likes to hog the old sofa like it was her bed whenever she watches anything on the screen?

Do you have to constantly pause the DVD to get your tomato juice from the kitchen benchtop because there is no place to put your drink without fear of spilling it on your white carpet? And does your back suffer terribly even only after 30 minutes of watching your favorite sitcom?

Home theater systems and home theater seating – the suburban preoccupation of the decade

If you’ve answered yes to any of the questions above, then despair no more. In the past five years or so, home theater seats have surpassed the comfort and support provided by the traditional movie theater seat.

Home theater seating can range from actual movie theater seats with beverage holders to more plush reclining club chairs and home theater loungers with footrests and built in wireless bass audio.

But how do you choose a good home theater seating? Below are some tips on how to choose a home theater seating that is just right for you.

Tips on how to choose the right home theater seating

1. The first thing to ask yourself is how many will you normally seat?

- If you prefer your home viewing to be strictly limited to yourself and your only daughter, then you will only need a seating for a small group of three.

- If you are planning to invite the whole neighborhood, then you may need to create one or more rows of grouped seating just like in a real theater. You can choose to have single seats carefully placed in your home entertainment or rumpus room or build a group of 2, 3 or 4 chairs.

2. The second and equally important question is will your current home entertainment or rumpus room have space enough for your home theater seating plan? It would be wise to allocate a room or part of a room that is spacious enough for your home entertainment area. Or if you have the budget and the inclination – you may want to add a special room for this specific purpose.

3. A very important priority in any home theater seating is comfort as you may need to be seated for an average of 90 to 120 minutes for a full length feature movie. Answering the following questions may help you to judge whether the home theater seating you are choosing will give you the level of comfort that you need.

- Does the footrest extend before the backrest reclines? This is important so that your body remains supported and your movie viewing and line of sight is kept intact.

- Are the armrests wide enough to rest your arms and provide the right balance?

- Does the seat and back offer both firmness and flexibility? Does the seat provide high density foam cushions to provide both comfort and back support?

- Does it provide full support from head to toe?

4. What style of home theater seating will fit your decor? After all, theater seats should be part of the home theater and should enhance its overall decor. Do you want an upholstered home theater seating or do you want to see some of the timber’s natural woodgrain enlivened by an oil finish?

Do you want supple, luxurious leather or the warm caress of velvet? What colors complement your decor – the girly-cute pink of custard; the regal low-maintenance ruby of pomegranate or the uptown classy brown of biscuit?

5. Was the home theater seating constructed using techniques that have been proven to result in stronger and more durable loungers and seats that can withstand everyday use, such as using kiln-dried hardwood base frames and cushions made of high density 2-lb foam.

6. Last but not least, how much do you want to spend for your home theater seating? Whatever your budget, there seems to be a home theater seating for everyone’s fancy:

- whether its the $4,700 three-seater Rodeo Leather Lounge with built in wireless bass shaker, recliner, footrest and wide armrest rolls for the ultimate in home theater experience,

- a vintage movie theater seat which had its previous home from a local movie house and which you’ve just bid successfully on ebay for $99,

- or somewhere in between.

Is Denon 4308 Home Theater System A Good Buy?

Once you have the Denon 4308, you need never visit the cinema again. Except for buying the popcorn, this system is geared to give you the best movie experience you ever had.

What factors do you consider important before you buy a home theater system?

I suggest you look for a wireless system. Why do I say so? Because, with a wired system, you are likely to have a clutter of wires and cables in your house. This not only increases the risk of somebody tripping and falling over to hurt themselves, but is also likely to make your house look untidy.

The Denon 4308 is a wireless home theater system that does away with wire clutter, and looks stylish, too. This means if you have wireless access where you live, you can use this system to listen to streaming music from the Internet.

Design esthetics are very important because a home theater system occupies a lot of space, and is a lifestyle product.

The Denon 4308 is ruggedly built and has a new “wave” style industrial design, and its sleek looks are likely to appeal to almost everyone.

It is also easy to install as it comes with a clear set of instructions. This system has a 7 channel stereo mode, and a very good sub-woofer, with good bass.

The 4308 has great crossover capability. In ordinary language this means that high, low and midrange frequencies are sent to the tweeter, the woofer, and the midrange driver, respectively, in a very efficient way.

The system has good stereo imaging, which means that you can easily visualize the relative positioning of individual voices, and instruments, while listening to the music.

HDMI Video conversion, multiple audio streaming, a 7-channel stereo mode, and a 1080p scaler which converts video format information to a higher (1080p) resolution giving you a clearer image are various hi-tech features that characterize this system.

This system is for you if you don’t mind paying a premium price for a premium feature-rich product.

Home Theater Essentials: Television, Sound and Signal

There are so many different consumer electronics out there for home theaters. It is tough to know what you really need for a good system. This article provides useful information on what is essential for a home theater and why.

All home entertainment units have three major components that are essential to creating a functional home theater system. The main focus of any theater is the television or video display. Sound quality is essential. A complete sound system is key to providing the soul and voice of the theatre. A source player is the third element, providing the picture and sound. Cable or satellite TV is standard in most homes but DVD and other players are also added to expand the usefulness of a home theater. It is these three major pieces of electronic innovation that make watching a movie, playing the XBox or listening to a favorite CD enjoyable and worthwhile.

Visual Element

There are video display options available to a home depending on budget and preferences.

Rear Projection Television. Television technology has been based on the cathode ray tube (CRT) up until the 21st century. In a rear projection TV, there are three tubes, each representing one of the primary colors. This colors mix along with quality wiring and a good screen, provide a very high resolution picture. Manufacturers are starting to drop rear project televisions from their product lines however. Research your manufacturer’s warranty before purchasing a rear projection television to make sure that customer service and repairs will be available down the line.

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Television. An LCD TV can be found as both a rear projection and as a flat screen. LCD rear projection TVs are much more compact than their CRT cousins and use less power. I have written about LCD televisions extensively in other articles so I will forego further explanation here.

Plasma Screen Televisions. In this technology, different gases are trapped between two panes of glass and an electronic signal can modify them to allow them to display a picture. These televisions are produced with a sleek thin design and can produce excellent resolution.

No matter which video display you are leaning toward, make sure to measure the area you want to put the TV so it fits when you bring it home. Also look into whether the screen is able to handle high definition (HD) television and DVDs.

Audio Elements

The sound system is going to make a huge difference in the enjoyment and functionality of your home theater. A good audio system includes the following elements:

Receiver. This component takes the audio signal, and often the video signal, and distributes it to the proper part of your system.

Amplifier. This component is what increases the signal strength before it is sent to the speakers. Often times, a purchased receiver will have an amplifier already built into it, making an additional piece of equipment unnecessary.

Surround Sound Speakers. Standard speaker sets of five are typical for most home theaters. There is a center channel, a right front, right rear, left front and left rear. These different speakers, when properly positioned, make the sound come from the appropriate direction.

Data / Signal Source

A basic DVD player is a standard signal source in most theater systems. The signal information sent from the player contains the video data as well as your 5.1 surround sound. Your cable box or digital satellite is also signal sources for a home theater. These sources can all be used in one system with the proper wiring and remote programming.

Home Theater: Home Entertainment Systems on a Budget

Many households would like to build out their home theater system but are afraid of the potential costs of doing so. This article will help readers understand how they can achieve a good home theater system on a budget.

A good home theater system can cost anywhere between $1,000 to over $30,000 depending on the quality of the equipment and the size of your home theater design. The difficult economy we are in has most households making tough decisions about what they want and what they can reasonably afford. Building a family home theater is being put on the back burner in many homes until additional income is available for such “extras.” But a home theater doesn’t have to break the bank. There are resources and ways to keep the cost of a quality system at a reasonable level.

Below are some suggestions for how to save money on a new entertainment system.

1. Search the Web. There are several web sites available online that compare systems and costs. Some will also provide unbiased reviews of products at various price points. Use these to help you decide which brands are in your budget.

2. Install the theater system yourself. Custom installation is needed for some theater designs but many can be easily done yourself with some careful planning. The wiring, cables and connections can be relatively easy to figure out if you follow the instructions.

3. Buy a floor model. A floor model is a piece of equipment that has been on display on the show floor of the electronics store but which is otherwise in perfect condition. This is a great way to get a quality product at a lower price. Talk to your retailer about models they may be looking to get rid of to make room for newer versions.

4. Consider second hand systems. Many audio/video enthusiasts will replace their home theater components every year or two and sell their relatively new systems for a low cost. Consumers must be diligent about doing their research of the product if they buy second hand as there will typically be no warranty remaining on these pieces.

5. Pace yourself. You can save some money by purchasing your home theater components over a period of time. By waiting and buying your television, then speakers, then receivers as you have money and as potential deals or prices drop can help you save 10-15%.

6. Consider a smaller television. It is hard to resist buying the biggest TV on the showroom floor. However, you can save considerable money buy purchasing a smaller screen. Even a few inches smaller can save you a couple of hundred dollars. Remember, those big TVs do not work in every family room anyway.

7. Buy fewer speakers. Two good quality loudspeakers at the front of your TV will cost less than five or more speakers; even poorer quality speakers and a sub woofer may cost more. Speakers are easy to add to your system as the funds allow.

8. Consider a comprehensive warranty. For such a large purchase, it is usually worth it to have a solid warranty that covers you for 1-2 years so that you can be sure that your investment will last and that the retailer or manufacturer backs it up. Should problems arise, this may actually save you money.

The Decline of the Movie Theater

This article discusses the advantages of building your own home theater verses going to the movies.

So, have you gone to the movies lately? Let’s face it, in this day and age, going to the movies isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. Recent studies have shown that box office ticket sales have steadily declined over the years and the reason is simple – years ago, if people wanted to see a movie, they had no other choice other than going to the theater. I don’t know about you, but I don’t remember the last time I had a pleasant “movie going” experience. Let’s look at what’s involved. First, you have to find out the times and the movies that are playing. Next you have to get in the car and drive to the theater giving yourself enough time to park, get your tickets, buy your popcorn, etc. Okay, now you’re all set and you enter the appropriate theater room and find your seat. The movie begins and here come the distractions. You have all the people straggling in that are late, fumbling around in the dark trying to find their seat, you have the whisperers, the plastic crinklers, the cell phone talkers … I think you get the point. By the way, I didn’t even mention the price of admission. Where I am from, it costs about $7.50 US Dollars per person. Bring your significant other, kids or whoever else and throw in the cost of snacks ….. This is Big Bucks!

I don’t go to the theater anymore, because now I have brought the theater to me. Yes, anytime I want to enjoy the movie experience (without the above aggravations), I simply change into my most comfortable lounging outfit and take the long trip down 13 steps into my game room , which I have transformed into a home theater. The advantages are unbelievable. I don’t have to drive anywhere, worry about parking, or deal with annoying people anymore. If I need to stop the movie to use the restroom or fix a quick snack, I just pause the movie and go do my thing. Yes, I still need to spend money on movies, but the prices of DVD’s have dropped tremendously and you can find many good deals on used DVD’s, which are just as good as a brand new one. Even the cost of a rental is at least half that of a theater ticket.

Don’t get me wrong, your going to have to shell out some bucks, but you can put together a decent set up for much less that you think. Basically, you need a flat screen tv and a surround system and you are good to go. How fancy you want to get all depends on your budget, but trust me, it will be a great investment in the long run. Don’t forget to keep all this in mind the next time your sitting at the theater and the kid next to you starts screaming out in the middle of the movie and the two teenagers in front of you wont shut up.

Home Theater Equipment: Setting Up Your Home Entertainment Area

Home Theater Systems are becoming more involved as well as more exciting. This article gives readers some helpful pointers for what to think about when setting up a new home theater system.

When it comes to putting money into the development of your home, one of the very worthwhile investments is an ideal home theater system. To ensure crisp sound, great visuals, and an amazing performance, you want the best equipment for your particular space. Not everyone is able to have their home system custom installed. Follow some of these worthwhile tips if you are bringing your stereo equipment home and installing all of the components yourself.

Installation is not as simple as placing the plasma TV and speakers up to the appropriate shelf of your home entertainment stand. For the less than technical, it may take a couple of hours to sort out the appropriate wires and connection cables and layout the correct plan for all of the home theater equipment. Take your time and feel comfortable with the plans. Make sure that the equipment you bought has all of the appropriate parts for solid installation. Taking the time to assess everything will save you stress later on.

Some pieces, such as a projector system, will require calibration and adjustment in addition to mounting. If you are unsure about how best to do this, schedule to work on installing everything in a couple of days so that you won’t be pressured to install equipment incorrectly or to settle for imperfect calibration. Ask your retailer when you purchase a home theater system about any optional or “not included” components that may best go with your home theater design. This will save you from having to make several trips to the store for additional parts.

Most home theaters designs include a television – whether plasma, LCD, projector system, or CRT – some form of speaker package for the audio home theater system element, a DVD player, and a cable box, satellite TV system or other connection system. Depending on how sophisticated you wish your home theater to be, you may include high-end receivers, subwoofers, and universal remote controls. Choose what is right for your household – don’t succumb to hypes or pressure. It is your home atmosphere that matters.

As you are planning your room, decide where the best speaker placement is for the size of your room. If need be, move furniture around for the best sound or buy longer wires to easily connect your components in the way you want. Most manufacturers will recommend placement options for the particular speaker types. Subwoofers can generally be placed to the front and left of the TV. Other speakers should be placed to the right and left of the TV and, depending on how many you have, midway in the room on both the right and left and behind the main viewing area. As you place speakers, stop and play your favorite DVD and see if you are getting the sound you want. Move the speaker if you are not.

.

Once the speakers are in place, connect them to the DVD player, cable box and the television, placing each component in the proper place as you get it connected. Play your favorite DVD in as you put on the finishing touches to test the sound quality, connections and the room lighting.

These tips are simple but they could save you a lot of time if you are installing a home theater system on your own.

Luxury Home Movie Theaters Are All the Rage

Luxury homeowners are consructing elaborate movie theaters within their homes more and more these days.

Owning a luxury home means a lot more than just having an enormous mansion. Sure that is a good start, but luxury homes go so much further; they are displays of shear elegance with amenities only afforded by the world’s wealthiest. Luxury homes often have in-home spas, marble flooring, large plasma HD televisions throughout, basketball court, bowling alley, designer kitchens, and pools that more closely resemble a lagoon from a high-class resort. Luxury homes even have in-home theater rooms.

We’re not just talking about oversized custom entertainment centers. We are talking about an entire room designed to emulate a real movie theater. Comfort with custom seating, ambient lighting, beautiful large screen high definition televisions plus the option of having the room designed in specific time periods, stles or themes. Everything from western themes to luxurious art deco to creative film themes are available.

There are companies that offer assistance in designing the perfect home theater room according to homeowners’ taste and specifcations. They can help either before the house is built or even in established homes.

Home theaters are elegant, however, costly. They are the perfect solution for those people who enjoy more time at home instead of always going out to a movie theater. They are able to avoid the crowded and loud theaters, the sticky and gummy floors, the restless children and people’s heads blocking the view. A beautiful and private home theater can provide that perfect atmosphere for just you and your family and friends.

The architectural and interior choices can be limitless. Private theaters can be designed with an elaborate style which could include a ceiling that looks like a starty sky as you are gazing up at your screen. Yes anything is possbile. Even custom made popcorn poppers to really set the scene of an authentic theater could be a great added detail.

Lighting is also a key element to this type of room. Soft and indirect lighting on dimmer switches controlled from a remote at your special seat is usually what the experts recommend.

Home theater rooms also require one other major feature and that is a high-quality surround sound system especially if the real feel a movie theater is to be achieved. Of course you would want to feel the thunder, storms and any other scenery effects you may be watching on the screen, wouldn’t you? Companies are definitely abrest of all the latest technolgy to make sure that sype of room is well equipped and can also help achieve each and every detail of your movie room.

Whatever the style, a home theater is definitely an enjoyable and luxurious aspect of a luxury home and provides any home owner the privacy and ability to enjoy watching favorite movies from a softly lit room in a cushy soft lounge seating. Homes with these features generally are the talk of all who enter and usually become a great source of hospitality and entertainment for family and friends. So if you choose to reward yourself with one of these extra rooms, get ready, dim the light and start the show.

Home Theater Design May Require Professional Help

Reasons why home theater design may require professional help

Having to be able to bring home entertainment may be a luxury. This is because only very few households can afford home theater system. Of late, only the rich and the famous can afford such luxury. This notion is now a thing of the past. Home theater systems may now be available to greater number of households because of the knowledge of basic home theater design. The basic home theater design may only require three basic components and these three components may already be affordable for the working class.

However, before you may need to think of the basic home theater design for your home theater system, you may need to know the size of the room for the home theater set up. The size of the room to where the home theater will be set up will depend on how basic the home theater design needs to be.

Home theater experts recommends that if the room is quite small, all you need for your home theater design is a television set, three surround sound system speakers and a DVD player. The home theater design may be dependent of the size of the room; however, the position of the speakers remains to be the left, the right and the center of the room. Basic home theater design may require a television set bigger than 27 inches. Too small screen for your home theater design may not be sufficient for a movie theater-like experience. This is because even for the home theater design, you may need to consider the sight and sound of a movie theater. It is the main consideration why people go to a movie theater, the big screen and the surround sound system. With respect to the surround sound system of a movie theater, the basic three speakers is only applicable for smaller rooms, if the room is bigger, the home theater design needs to be more than three, you may go up to six speakers and a complimenting subwoofer may be necessary for the surround effect. Going back to a small room, if you will only put three speakers, you may want to consider buying a high quality brand speaker; this will give you enough surround sound for a smaller room.

If you have a small budget, ensure that the store where you will buy your speakers will allow you to test the product in your room and if it will not give you a good surround sound, they should allow you to return or replace the unit. This is because some speakers sound good in the store but when you finally set them up in a small room, the effect is not very good. Find a neat deal where they can allow you to return or replace the speakers. However, if your budget is sufficient, you may consider hiring the services of a home theater designer. Your home theater designer will be able to design the home theater better and with complete accessories. He may require checking the power rating, and the need for amplifiers. He may also…

Home Theater Furniture Design and Decor

Owning a home theater is no more a dream. All it takes is the correct equipment and furniture. Read on for information about home theater furniture design and dcor.

alt=”Home Theater Furniture Design and Decor” />
I am sure that anyone who is an ardent movie buff would like to possess a home theater. Owing one is a good idea but there are a few factors that need to be taken into consideration. Furniture is certainly one of the factors!

Once you have made up your mind to include one at home, it is important to decide the location. If you already know that, then it is time to go ahead. Basically there are two parts of a home theater, one is the video and audio equipment and the second the interior designing of the theater room.

Equipment

It you want value for money it is important to conduct a market survey of various audio and video kits available. This will help you select a product that not only helps you save money but goes well with the size of the room too.

Home theater cables should be selected with care, as one that is carefully selected will change the signal as little as possible.

Designing of the room

Here are things you could include in the home theater room:

When designing the room, let your imagination run riot. Let your thoughts flow and add to the dcor according to the flow that you experience.

  • ColorWhen adding color to the walls or including color-using accessories, select one that you would like to have around for some time. Do make sure that the color compliments the other rooms of the house.
  • LightingAn important part of a room, the light in the home theater dcor should be placed in such a manner that the movie can be be viewed easily. It should also provide enough light that people are able to find their way in and out of their seats. You could install lights that can be controlled by a dimmer switch. Using this will help you dim the lights when the movie begins.
  • SoundSound is a very important part of this room in particular. Keeping this in mind, the speakers should be placed in such a way that it results in better quality sound which in turn makes the movie more real and original.
  • SeatingThe seating in this room should be arranged in a very systematic fashion in order to avoid congestion. Comfortable chairs with sliding footrests and wide armrests should be included.

What type of furniture should I include in the home theater design?

I feel furniture is a major concern in this room in particular. Furniture that is carefully selected will go a long way to ensure that your room is the talk of town.

Select the furniture after you have decided upon the electronics. You could select chairs and recliners. Recliners have a range of options such as the vibrating recliners; massage recliners and high quality recliners.

For seats you could select loungers that look as if they come straight from the downtown cinema. The seats that are available in this category can be between two to eight seats in length. Avoid using sofas or couches in this room because it might take away the effect that you desire.

What kind of accessories will enhance the dcor?

Like I said earlier, your creativity will certainly help you add oodles of style to the home theater design dcor! When you bring your favorite movies home remember to also bring the posters. Apart from this, you can use signs and carpeting…just like the theater down the road!

5 Lessons To Help You Build A Cheap Home Theater

5 Lessons To Help You Build A Cheap Home Theater

A home theater system makes a great addition to any home. It is a place for the whole family to get together, watch a movie and spend some quality time at home while having fun at the same time. However, buying a complete HDTV based home theater can be quite expensive. Here are some tips to help you build a cheap home theater without compromising quality.

1) Plan a budget

Planning a budget is perhaps the most important task to consider before planning to build a home theater. Failure to create a budget can result in spending more than the amount that was intended or even worst, spending to much on a television set causing the other necessary components to get out of reach. Budget planning helps to put a stop on compulsive shopping and is a tried and tested method when it comes to avoiding being caught in a money spending frenzy.

2) Determine what you need

Home theaters have basic components: the monitor in this case the HDTV set, speakers, media or disc players and connection cables. These are four basic components that every setup that qualifies as a home theater has. All the others are optional add ons and should not have top priority when trying to build a cheap setup. Of course, add ons are can be given top priority of they are to be used very frequently or substitute one of the basic components.

2) Choosing an HDTV set

Choosing an HDTV set is the most important aspect of any home theater. It is widely known that LCDs are cheaper than Plasma and most of the other HDTV display technologies out there. A very important factor to consider is the highest resolution offered by the HDTV set. The higher the resolutions offered the higher the price. It is quite a rule of thumb that a 1080p capable HDTV set will have a considerably higher price tag than one that offers a maximum resolution of 720p. In this case since we are building a cheap home theater a maximum resolution of 720p is more than enough.

Another factor to consider is the brand. Buying a product from a good brand is important when it comest to electronic equipment and is highly advisable even if there are lower priced products from unrecognized brands. Building a cheap home theater does not necessarily mean that its components have to be unreliable products. Last but not least and if not most important is screen size. This one is on the obvious side but it is important to be realistic and this is where budget planning is very useful. In summary, the amount of money that was assigned for the HDTV set in the budget planning step is better spent on an LCD that allows up to 720p resolutions than on a 1080p plasma of a ton of inches less in size if we are planning to build a cheap home theater.

3) Choosing a disc player and speakers

Choosing a media player or in this case something to play HD capable discs is the easiest part, it all boils down to preference. There are two mayor formats that dominate the market for high definition media discs. These two formats are HD-DVD and BLU-RAY. Of these two, BLU-RAY emerged victorious in the race for the best format so we can discard HD-DVD as a reliable format to add to our cheap home theater. Our decision is further reduced to buying a BLU- RAY player and speaker combo or buying them as separate products.

From these two options the one that tends to give the best results is buying them as separate products. This option lets you choose a good player while having the flexibility to buy cheaper speakers. Keep in mind that speakers should be 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound ready in order to achieve a good sound experience. It is worth mentioning that in the case that you are a gamer that is planing to buy a Play Station 3 console, you would not need another BLU-RAY player since the PS3 video game console has one integrated as the disc reading device. If in fact you own a Play Station 3 you might just purchase the best speakers your budget allows or buy a bigger screen.

4) Deciding to buy accessories

Accessories are mostly cables and other connection gear. Additional gear includes stands and related items. In this case, quality cables can be purchased for cheap online if not provided with the products. As for stands, they must be purchased only if needed since they are generally used for speaker positioning. Consider hanging your speakers to the walls. A lot of speakers have holes to hang them anyway. This speaker positioning strategy doesn’t look as good as speakers in stands do but may save you almost a hundred bucks.

5) And finally the add ons

In this section we find HDTV tuners, recorders and devices that are not the bread and butter in a home theater. In the case of tuners, if the HDTV set has one built in forget about them completely instead with the money you will be saving choose an HDTV with bigger screen if not, save them for something else that is not related to home theaters. If in fact you are subscribed to satellite TV or digital cable you may even not need one in the first place. As for recorders, if you were looking to build a cheap home theater system forget about them, they are not necessary in a home theater they are just a luxury for those who can afford them.

Pricing Changes In Home Theater Systems

Pricing Changes In Home Theater Systems

When you were a kid a home theater system probably meant that there was a tv in the living room, and if you were really good, you could turn off the lights and sit with a bowl of popcorn to watch some scary movie. Today, the home theater is more like its title, a theater for your home. In some cases, people are able to dedicate an entire room to their home theater. They go in there to watch movies or important sporting events, but most other television watching is done in the living room. In many cases, the home theater is just another name for the living room.

With home theaters becoming more popular, they are getting less and less expensive to purchase. There are boxed sets now that are sold to add to your existing television set and create your own home theater. There are sets that are marketed together with a discount that would create your own home theater. There are so many options for today’s shopper that a wise shopper will spend weeks making the decision on which system to purchase.

With today’s technology getting better and better, the cost of things is really dropping rather than increasing. Technology that could only have been afforded by the movie theaters twenty years ago is now commonplace in many homes. Theater quality surround sound can now be achieved with as little as three speakers placed strategically around the room. When shopping for audio components, you may find that they will vary in cost from very inexpensive to way over your budget. Keep in mind that the cost is not always a direct representation of the quality.

Several years ago, home video projectors were found only in the homes of the rich and famous. Now, they too are more commonplace than you may think. The technology advancements are bringing down the cost of so many home theater components that one day, everyone will be able to afford to have their own. In just the last couple of years, the home projection system has become more affordable than even some of the large screen televisions that have been on the market for many years.

Not only are home theaters common in the homes of your millionaires, they are creeping into the homes of the middle class American, and they are getting more and more use every day. Again, with the technology making such great advances at such speeds, the costs are dropping and more and more people are affording the components.

You may find that it is less expensive to purchase a home theater system that has already been put together as a package for you, and you may find that the quality of certain items is not there. Make sure to do your research before buying any component of the home theater system. One error in judgment of purchase could cause many headaches and costly problems in future dealings with changes to your home theater.

My Dream Home Theater System!

My Dream Home Theater System!

Nothing beats having a killer home theater system. Big screen TV with high-definition, surround sound where I can plug in my iPod Nano, the latest DVD technology, video on demand, an Xbox 360, a hookup for my digital camcorder – the list goes on and on. Man, I’d love to have an awesome home theater inside my house. I’d never go outside if I did! And there’s just some much stuff to choose from when it comes to building your own home theater. Seating, systems, design, brand names, video games; I could easily spend thousands of dollars creating my dream home theater system. Of course, I don’t have thousands of dollars to spend, but I can still dream about it!

My perfect home theater system would be completely wireless. No cables or cords whatsoever. And it isn’t as far fetched as it sounds. More and more home theater systems are being built and designed to be wireless. That doesn’t just include the home theater itself. That includes other aspects of the home theater like video games, PVRs, DVD players, video cameras and more. Pretty soon, the home theater cable connection won’t even have a cable to connect! Now how awesome is that?

I’d have a big screen HDTV with crystal clear surround sound that would blow my mind. And when I got my home theater installed, up and running, I would plop myself on the couch with a seven-pound bag of popcorn and watch anything and everything that I can. Hey, that’s the point of having a great home theater sound system, to watch stuff! The images would be clear, the sound immaculate and it would all work with only one remote control. Now that’s a great home theater!

Of course, I would have an Xbox 360 or Playstation hooked up to this bad-boy. High-definition games played on a massive, high-def screen? I’d have every video game humanly possible and would completely immerse myself playing them!

A home theater allows you to experience TV rather than just sit and watch it. Imagine watching a hockey game where a hard body check on the boards rattles your bones too. Or watching war movie thinking you’re going to be shot at. Or watching your home-movies on such a screen that it makes you feel like you’re at the event all over again! Or playing the hottest and coolest Xbox or Playstation games! With your own home theater, seating is always at a premium and it’s an experience like no other. And when you want to listen to music, just hook up your stereo system to your home theater. Imagine listening to Dark Side of the Moon on high-definition, high fidelity surround sound speakers? Any music fan will tell you that it would be the ultimate audio experience, and a home theater allows you to enjoy just that!

In the early 1990s, people decided to cocoon, or stay home rather than go out. Not so far after, home theaters got more and more complicated and detailed. Home theaters used to be exclusively for the super-rich, and their home theaters are actually movie theaters right at home, with home theater seating and everything. But with some careful saving and research, anyone can have a great home theater to fit their budget, lifestyle and space. As for me, one day I’ll have an awesome home theater of my own, with a huge TV, amazing sound – all wireless of course! Until then, I’ll just keep on dreaming about it!

Surround Sound Philosophy 101

Surround Sound Philosophy 101

There has been a long evolution in commercial movie theater sound. During the first two and a half decades of movie theater presentations, a piano, organ, orchestra, sound effects man, or actors reading the dialog comprised the sound of movies. Electronic sound appeared in 1926 with the coming of the “talkies.” Theaters were wired for sound, and a big speaker perhaps set behind the center of the screen did it all. This was the monophonic sound era. Then stereo sound arrived in the 1940’s with left and right channels. Additional sound channels were added in the 1950’s. (Somewhere in there, a center channel was added to anchor the dialog to the center of the screen.) Finally surround sound came on the scene in the 1980’s in various versions adapted to the acoustic challenges of the commercial movie theater. (The advent of DVD’s brought affordable surround sound to our home theaters.)

Home theater sound can follow any of these commercial movie theater approaches, or it can move beyond to new levels of sonic realism and effects.

One important difference between movie theaters and home theaters is that movie theaters must present acceptable sound to a (hopefully) large group of people sitting at every location of a large room. In contrast, a home theater usually serves a much smaller group of people sitting in a much more limited part of the home theater space.

The limited size of the usual listening/viewing location in a home theater can work to the advantage of home theater owners due to the nature of sound reproduction.

To understand how sound reproduction bears on this discussion, let’s start by considering stereo sound.

In stereo systems, if a listener is closer to the left speaker, all the sound apparently comes from the left speaker. If you have a stereo, turn it on and try this: sit in a location equidistant from the two speakers and listen to a good stereo recording with your eyes closed. Note the spread of locations the sound appears to come from. Now move a few feet to the left of and then to the right of center and notice how the sound which was spread across from left to right collapses into “all left” or “all right”. This failure of the stereo illusion is unavoidable when you use just two speakers. This means there’s always a “sweet spot” (where the stereo effect works best) located on a line centered between the two speakers in a stereo system.

By the way, purchasing more expensive speakers cannot overcome this effect, as the failure of the stereo effect ONLY has to do with both the differences in loudness between the two speakers (due to being closer to one than to the other) and the difference in the time when the sound arrives at your ears from each of the two speakers.

The center speaker in movie or home theaters is an attempt to override this problem by placing a speaker in the middle of the screen for dialogue and other sounds which the film maker wants to make sure comes from the center of the screen, no matter where you sit in the theater. The center channel solves the problem of stabilizing the dialogue but alas, any stereo sound being provided by the front left and front right speakers will still seem to collapse to one side or the other if a person sits well to the left side or the right side of the theater.

So, now let’s consider the surround speakers. In movie theaters, the sound system designers are really stuck in a dilemma. Some audience members are often sitting right under or right next to one of the surround speakers, which means there’s no hope of the person hearing the other surround speakers’ output at the correct volume and at the right time to get any sort of stereo effect from the surround speakers. This is probably why the older Dolby Pro-Logic system rear surround was only monophonic.

Instead, sound system designers for movie theaters apparently threw up their hands and designed and arranged the surround speakers to:

1. Really lag in time, (so the surround sound wouldn’t arrive BEFORE the sound from the main speakers, no matter where you sat, and)
2. Arranged for those speakers to smear their sound all over the back of the theater to mask the problems caused by the great variety of audience/surround speaker time and distance relationships.

Now, along comes home theater.

Most home theater users don’t fill the room with audiences, but the philosophy of earlier commercial theater design is still being applied. You will observe how some home theater rear surround speakers are designed to project sound in multiple directions and how the set up manuals will often direct that the speakers be placed to project their sound away from the main viewing location.

Here’s the thing – if you want to reproduce the movie theater listening experience, use the surround speakers which try to spread sound all over and position those speakers to aid that goal.

But, if you want to enjoy the more accurate sound source positioning (the sound appears to come from some exact location behind you, to your left, right, or even overhead!) made possible by Dolby Digital or DTS, a different approach should be used.

In this approach (labeled “Holosonic Sound” by Gary Reber and the gang at Widescreen Review magazine [www.widescreenreview.com]) the rear speakers are placed behind the viewers at about the same distance from the main listening position as the front speakers. They are usually somewhat further apart than the front speakers. These surround speakers should be:

1. Well matched to the sound quality (timbre) of the front and center speakers.
2. Direct radiating, and pointed at the prime listening position.
3. Capable of handling at least one-third to one-half the power that the front speakers can handle.
4. Located at a height at or slightly above the height of the ears of the audience.
(To prevent sound from the rear speakers from being blocked by seatbacks, they might have to go a bit higher. The viewer’s ears must be able to directly “see” the surrounds.)

Home theater owners whose seats are right back against the wall will have to cope by placing the surrounds on the back wall facing the seating, but spaced well away from the viewers (same distance from the viewers as the distance from the front speakers to the viewers, if possible) to minimize the collapse of the rear stereo effect if an audience member is not sitting exactly between the two rear surround speakers.

Movie makers today are releasing films on DVD with sound that is designed so that home theaters arranged to produce accurate stereo sound from good rear surround speakers will really give you the feeling the you are inside the action, with actors sometimes speaking behind you, and sounds moving right out of the screen over your head.

How do you reliably adjust and test your home theater for the kind of performance we’re talking about here?

Easy! Order the AVIA disk from Ovation Software’s website. (www.ovationmultimedia.com)

Study the materials presented on the AVIA DVD, and then follow the instructions on the disk, or hire a pro to do the job after watching the DVD has helped you to understand the outline of what has to be done. The audio portions of this disk will assist you mightily in tuning up your system if you do it yourself. It contains “circulating” audio test signals that circle around the room and if you set up your theater for accurate surround sound, that test will show you how well surround sound can work in your home theater.

It can be very satisfying to have better surround sound than the commercial movie theaters.

Complete The Home Theater Set Up With High-end Home Theater Speakers

Complete The Home Theater Set Up With High-end Home Theater Speakers

Home theaters are getting to be extremely popular among American homes. This modern technology is slowly giving movie theaters a run for their money. Basic knowledge of home theater system and its basic components may be best for people who want to bring home relaxation and entertainment.

The most important consideration in the design and complete set up of your home theater is the size of the room. The home theater speakers and the other components of your home theater may need to consider the size of the room. Too small rooms for your home theater may not require so many speakers. Only three speakers may be good if the room is quite small. Do not overload your small room; you may not be able to get the entertainment and relation you want if you feel overloaded with so many home theater speakers. Because you only need three home theater speakers in your small room, you may need to acquire the high-end brand of home theater speakers to compliment the size of the room and the other equipments for your home theater.

If you have a bigger room however, the basic three home theater speakers may not be enough. You may need to put up to six speakers around the room, you may also consider complimenting your home theater speakers with subwoofer to complete the surround sound like in movie theaters. In addition to the speakers, you may also need to purchase a high-end television set which should not be smaller than 27 inches. It may not be reasonable if you buy a smaller television set because it may drown in the fineness of your home theater speakers. Additionally, the DVD player needs to be of high quality, having progressive scan your DVD Player may help provide sharp images and flicker-free pictures for your home theater system. The home theater speakers, television and DVD player are the basic components of a home theater system especially if the room is quite small. However, for bigger room, adding home theater furniture and home theater projectors may be necessary to complete the package. Again, it may be worth it, if your home theater speakers are of high quality. This is because of the need to provide a surround sound for the home theater set up. The DVD player and the television set may answer for the requirement of sight in a movie theater setup. Your home theater speaker needs to answer for the sound requirement, and if your home theater speaker is not of high quality brand, it may not be able to do the job for you.

In order for you to avoid making mistakes in your choice of home theater equipments including home theater speakers, and home theater furniture, you may require the services of a home theater designer. They will be able to provide the best recommendation that will ensure you will get the most out of your home theater system including topnotch home theater speakers. Additional home theater furniture may be necessary to complete the package and to dress up the whole room. Since they are the designers, they will be able to recommend the best for your home theater system set up. If you have a properly designed home theater, you will be the best entertainment possible.

Your home theater designer may take on the huge responsibility of choosing the most suitable home theater speaker to attain the best design for your home theater.

Bring home relaxation and entertainment right in your own living room, home theater system can provide this to you and your family.

Breaking The Home Theater Surround Sound Barrier

Breaking The Home Theater Surround Sound Barrier

Once upon a time, in the good old days when I was a boy, you would head off to the cinema in the weekend with your siblings in tow, allowing your parents a few hours of relief from the highly stressful realities of parenting in the seventies. Or something like that. To be honest, I don’t think my parents knew how good they had it back then. We lived at the edge of the world, or as close as you can get to it before falling off the map–in the trouble-free little city of Auckland, New Zealand. Either way, off to the cinema we would go, every weekend. Like dutiful clockwork children of the corn fields, sunshine or rain, good movie or total stinker. Actually, it’s a wonder my force-feed diet of Tarzan, Clint Eastwood, and Bruce Lee did me no lasting harm. Somehow I survived to adulthood, retaining my childlike indulgence for suspended disbelief in a darkened viewing room, minus the mandatory box of chocolate-centered Jaffas, which I have neither seen nor tasted now for perhaps thirty years.

Now, there’s a reason people go to movie theaters, and it’s one that likely factors into why I remember that part of my childhood so well. Watching movies in a cinema is nothing like the experience at home. At least, it was not back then. The big screen was essential to “losing yourself” in the fabricated reality of a big studio production. But, contributing just as much to the success of this movie magic was the concept of surround sound–having the aural component of the experience assault you from multiple directions at once. If I was an engineer I’d probably tell you that, by combining the sound from a number of separated speakers in a coordinated way, it is possible to create a spatial imaging component to the movie-going experience that your television just cannot reproduce. In layman’s terms: surround sound just pulls you into the screen.

Today, wireless surround sound systems exist to do exactly this in your home theater, helping to reduce the difference between the movie house and “in house” movie viewing. More exciting, however, has been the recent development of an audio technology much simpler than any wireless surround sound system. I’m talking about tactile transducers, or Bass Shakers, as they are more commonly known. Instead of depending on a wireless surround sound system to deliver the sensation of “being there”, tactile transducers generate very low frequency vibrational energy that can literally be felt throughout your body. Bass shakers allow you to experience every thump, thrust and shaking motion that the characters in your movies are feeling. By attaching a transducer to a solid surface, like the hardwood backing of a home theater lounger, these vibrations pack an emotional wallop when the storyline action steps up.

When that *thing* jumps out of the closet on screen, you’ll be jumping out of your chair! When those naval guns start pounding in “Sink the Bismarck”, or that T-Rex bellows in “Jurassic Park”, you’ll feel it in your bones. Once you have experienced a Bass Shaker at play, that plain old home theater surround sound system simply will no longer be enough for you.

If you are really adventurous, handy with tools, and have lots of time on your hands, you can buy tactile transducers separately and install them any place where you might also hook up ordinary speakers, including inside your car, if you like. But for the rest of us there is an easier option. Wireless Bass Shakers are built into many models of home theater loungers, including the Metro, Garrick, Este, and Rodeo models found on HomeTheaterSeatingGuide.com. No wires, no installation, no fuss. In fact, there’s no need even to send your kids off to the movie theater by themselves anymore. Not when your family can share together all the thrills, and now spills, of modern day movie viewing in the comfort of your own home theater.

What Is Home Theater?

What Is Home Theater?

Home theater is the term used to describe the recent evolution of audio and video systems that offer exceptional quality and superior performance – in essence, it is like having a movie theater in your own living room.

The recreation obtained by the combination of audio and visual components creates the experience of a professional movie theater. The set-up may be as simple as a DVD player fed through a stereo system and a larger television set, or as elaborate as an entire room professionally wired with multiple speakers and a projection screen. A home theater system may even include theater-style chairs and an elevated floor for optimal viewing.

The knowledge of how a professional movie theater is designed is helpful to learn more about the working of a Home theater system. Amplifier units are located to the left, right and center of an expansive movie screen, there are also several satellite speakers embedded through the auditorium, including the back. Movie sound editors separate the audio track into as many as six different channels — the audience may hear dialogue in the front left, center and right channels for instance. Other sounds may start from a rear channel and move towards the front. This creates a very realistic audio environment.

Professional movie theaters also project a high-definition film onto an oversized screen which is wider than it is tall. This allows for a more natural visual experience than a typical square television screen provides. The increased definition of a 35mm or 70mm film also gives the movie added realism. All of these aspects of movie-going are recreated in a good home theater system. The DVD player in a home theater system can separate the audio track into two, three or even five channels.

Everyone has different needs and desires about what their media center should be, and may be constrained by different environmental or budgetary limitations. Careful navigation through a detailed methodology ensures that the right choices about design, equipment selection, features, and style are made up front. A few of the questions listed below would be advisable to ponder before setting up a Home theater.

Where is theater going to be located?
How large is the area?
How many people would normally be using the room at a time?
How much ambient noise is there?
How much ambient light is there?
What will the room be used for primarily?
What will the secondary uses be?
What kind of budget do you have?

Since new movies are always being released, the thrill of your theater is renewed each time you sit down in the comfort of your own home with your loved ones. Why not make the most of it?

Movies, Movies, Movies In Your Own Home Movie Theater

Movies, Movies, Movies In Your Own Home Movie Theater

We all love to go to the movie theater to relax after a long day of work. Even if you need to tide traffics jams to go to the movie theater, you are willing to endure this to be able to watch a movie. The sight and sound of a movie theater is what makes us go back there every so often. We easily get lost in the movie scene because of the bigger than life pictures and surround sound that takes you there beside the characters in the movie. This may prove to be costly in the end but we continue to do this because we love to go to movie theaters and see movies. If you can bring home a movie theater, it will be good and I am sure you will love the idea. However, before you say no, think again. Going to the movie theaters every single day is definitely costly in the long run. Additionally, if you know the basic components of a home movie theater, you may not think twice and will definitely leave right now to acquire your own home movie theater.

A complete setup of a movie theater in a big room is definitely only accessible to the rich and the famous. However, if you have meager budget, you can have the home movie theater for yourself knowing the basic components and setting up the home movie theater in a smaller room. You may convert you den to a home theater room. You only need the three basic components and you may already enjoy watching movies with no limit.

If you have a television set, which I know you do, that is about 27 inches, you run away spending for the first major component of your home movie theater. The second major component, which I think you have, is the DVD player. If your DVD Player has progressive scan that is wonderful, however, even without progressive scan, your DVD player may work as the second component for your home movie theater. The final piece of the puzzle, which I want you to spend on, is the home theater speakers. You need three high-quality home theater speakers for your home movie theater. You need to place one on the right side, one on the left side and one on the rear center of the room. These are the three basic components of your home movie theater. You may now start enjoying unlimited movie and enjoy watching movies with your whole family. I am sure you will agree with me that this is the best part of owning your own home movie theater.

The set up for your home movie theater with the three basic components is the best perfect setup for small rooms. However, if you have a bigger room for your home movie theater, I am sure you have a bigger budget for your home theater. Then you may want to consider the recommendation of home theater experts, you may add more speakers up to six home theater speakers and may need to compliment it with subwoofer to maintain the surround sound effect for your home movie theater. If you want a bigger picture, you may want to consider buying a home theater projector. You may also acquire home theater seating and television cabinet if you want to compliment the home theater design to make up a complete package for your home entertainment. All these additions to the basic components may be necessary if you have a bigger room. If the room is smaller, then you may only need the three basic components for your home movie theater.

Having to be able to bring home the sight and sound you run after in movie theaters may be very efficient and less costly. Aside form the fact that you enjoy life with your family beside you watching movies after movies in your very own home movie theater.

HDTV? You Ain’t Seen NOTHING Yet!!!
by: Bob Wood

Remember the Osborn? Or was it the Osborne? Actually, I knew it existed, but didn’t care. This thing was a personal computer. Like we’d ever need one of those? Those new electric typewriters with memory were the rage. THAT was something!

Flash forward and we are upon the reverse engineered UFO goodies. Oh, wait, no, that’s not exactly right.

It’s the dawning of the age of Aquarius, age of Aquarius, Ah QUAR EEEE USSS. Um, no, that was some time ago.

It’s the age of $3 US Gas. Not a good milestone

The age of HDTV!!! Remember when ‘high definition’ included the terms ’stems and seeds?’ You do? You rascal.

No, this is about High Definition TELEVISION. Personally, I feel the word TELEVISON is so…. Fifties. We need a new one there. So did you jump for the Plasma? Or the LCD projector? The DLP? Have you got the home theater with all the tricked out electronics?

Don’t put your ear directly on the high tech train tracks, then, because there’s another train coming, and you’ll hear it down the line.

UHDV is in the pipeline. On the track. In the lab. In the electron wind. Want to guess? Time’s up. ULTRA HIGH DEFINITION.

Remember the movie where they invent this skull cap that would capture your emotions and immediately the bad guy looped someone having how shall we say – some very intense happy times… and turned himself into peak experience broccoli? Is that where all this is headed? Not for a while, if ever. HOWEVER: UHDV is close to the detail of 35mm film. With 7680 x 4320 pixels, this isn’t far from the 4K (4,000 scan line) digital projection systems for big-screen movie theaters.

Donald Trump will be able to see how bad his hair looks like never before.

UHDV features 33 million pixels with a 60 frame-per-second (fps) progressive scan format.

NHK, the Japanese broadcasting giant who had HDTV in the 1980s… is behind the UHDV format, but reassures us it may be a long time before home theater UHDV becomes reality. That’s corporate talk for, ‘Don’t let the competition know how close we really are!’

With 32 times the bandwidth demands of HDTV, UHDV would be prohibitive for today’s broadcast, cable and satellite technology. NHK’s demo required a data rate of 24 Gbps. That was a few years back in Amsterdam where some people were close to hurling lunch because the moving car video hi-jinx was that real.

How real?

NHK cobbled together a custom camera of four CCD image sensors; then to show the output built a LCoS projector combining four eight-megapixel panels. Data storage, using 16 synchronized HDTV recorders, provided roughly 18 minutes of recording time, using 3.5 terabytes of total capacity and a screen about 12 feet high and 22 feet wide. NHK researchers called this ‘the sensation of reality saturation point,’ in the hopes of providing a completely immersive experience: 100 degrees of visual field angle, viewing from a distance of three-quarters of the height of the screen (about nine feet) with at least 60 pixels required for each one degree of visual field angle.

And speakers? UHDV offers 24-channel sound, or 22.2, containing vertically arrayed surround sound speakers: nine above ear level, 10 at ear level, three below ear level and two low-frequency subwoofer channels.

The format, according to NHK, is not so much intended for home use as for museums, public spaces and theaters. You tell The Donald.

Once upon a time there was SHOWSCAN. Special effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull had his demo unit in a suburb of Dallas, behind a Chucky Cheese, if memory serves. I saw the demo.

The equipment and the Showscan Film Process of producing and projecting Showscan films are justifiably proprietary and patented. At the time, Showscan’s discovery was hailed as the most significant advancement in film technology since the introduction of sound in the 1929 film ‘The Jazz Singer’. (Not the one with Neil Diamond.) However, it remained as little more than a technological curiosity until the company developed new camera, high speed projectors, and built special theaters to showcase the revolutionary Showscan images. There was a catch-22 at work. Theaters weren’t equipped for this state of the art projection so they couldn’t convince investors to make films in that format. Solution: do it all in house.

I can’t remember the specs but it was scarily real, 3-D, multi channel and way ahead of multi channel… or HDTV. I do remember it ran film through the gate much faster than normal projection speeds.

Today the company’s simulation and specialty theatres are open or under construction in 24 countries around the world, located in theme parks, motion picture multiplexes, expos, world’s fairs, resorts, shopping centers, casinos, museums, and other tourist destinations where somebody wants a rush.

If NHK can even come close, well…

Enjoy your puny HDTV now while you can, citizen.
